Over the past few years I have amassed a substantial collection of screen shots, which were originally created for personal use. When I began thinking about this project (the prompt being to create a website around a collection) I realized my digital collection of stills from the web actually had some significance outside of my own enjoyment. Collecting screen shots is effectively documenting the past internet – creating something stagnant and permanent out of an ever changing entity. The collection allows the user to recall the visual and cultural changes that have taken place online. It is a reminder of memes gone by, old web browser design, and many other digital tropes that are significant yet easily forgotten.
